LX1734CLM is a kind of DC-DC switching regulator made by semiconductor manufacturing giant ON Semiconductor Corporation. It is a high-efficiency, low-cost, high-efficiency, high-temperature-resistant, single-output step-down power supply. It has a wide input voltage range and is suitable for various communication systems, industrial or automotive applications.

LX1734CLM generally includes a controller IC and two power plate MOSFETs. The controller IC has the function of a pulse-width modulation (PWM) step-down switch mode regulator, which is driven by a control loop and controls the output voltage. The MOSFET switches in the regulator composed of these three components is internal and the actual control of the circuit is through the MOSFET switches. When voltage input and output are within the allowable range, the LX1734CLM can support a wide range of output power, up to 10W.

When the regulator is connected to the power supply and power input is within the allowable range, the circuit has the following three functions:

Feedback and soft start: The controller IC includes an amplifier circuit which senses the output voltage and compares it with a reference voltage. If the output voltage is too low, the amplifier will increase the conduction control signal and the output voltage will increase as well. When the input is powered on, the controller IC also has a soft start circuit to ensure a safe ramp-up. This allows the LX1734CLM to be properly used in applications with high current requirements.

Overvoltage protection: When the input voltage is greater than the specified maximum voltage, the circuit will be shut down and the output voltage will cease to change. This protects the LX1734CLM from damage due to overvoltage.

Overcurrent protection: The circuit also has overcurrent protection in case of an overload. If the current exceeds the specified maximum load current, the circuit will shut down to protect the LX1734CLM from damage.

LX1734CLM is widely used in communication systems, industrial and automotive applications, such as chargers, ATV, audio, computer power supply, telecom base station and so on. Its advantages are high efficiency, low standby power consumption and high temperature resistance.
