Working Principle
LX1742CDU features an active clamp reset control(ACR) circuit which works on step-down buck-topology. ACR involves a power MOSFET(PMOS) switch and an N-channel MOSFET (NMOS) switch driven by output voltage feedback. The ACR works by switching the two MOSFETs between the inductor current source and the output capacitor. When the NMOS switch is in the on-state, the energy stored in the inductor is transferred to the output capacitor whereas when the PMOS is switched on, the inductor current flows in the opposite direction, storing energy back into the inductor.
The cycle repeats, enabling continuous current transfer that is regulated to a desired value. Since the switching sequence is triggered by the output voltage, the output is regulated by sensing this voltage using the feedback path. The feedback voltage is compared with a reference voltage, generated by an internal charge pump circuit and forming a gap to ensure proper error-amplifier operation. According to the sensed difference between the feedback and reference voltages, the error amplifier will adjust the voltage applied to the Gate of the MOSFETs, controlling the cycle duration and thus, maintaining the output voltage to the desired value.
LX1742CDU provides various features for its users such as adjustable switching frequency, low shutdown current and no-load operation mode. The user can adjust the switching frequency according to the input voltage, as well as the expected output power. The frequency of operation can be increased up to 1.2MHz to achieve higher efficiency.
