LX1742 is a low cost, high performance integrated AC/DC off-line switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board offering maximum power of up to 17W. This evaluation kit is designed to provide a complete and fully integrated design of flyback converters for powering up small and medium power applications. It comes with a variety of protection features, integrated components, optimized startup sequence and flexible modulation options for evaluation and testing of the application under development.The application field of this evaluation kit extends from computer peripherals, consumer electronics, diagnostics/monitoring equipment, industrial control and measurement, system power, telecommunication, networking, audio and video equipment (AYV), white goods, gaming systems, etc. For such a wide range of applications, the LX1742 EVAL KIT requires a wide range of supply voltage, supported switching frequency and high surge/long-term reliability. The working principle of this evaluation kit is based on the flyback converter topology, which is an efficient, low-cost solution for providing unregulated, high current outputs where noise and ripple have to be kept to a minimum level. This topology utilizes a single switch that is on when the output voltage is below the desired value and off when the output voltage reaches the desired value. The on and off period are regulated using a pulse width modulation (PWM) controller. The main components of the LX1742 evaluation kit include the flyback converter, a controller/driver, a power supply, and a scope probe. The flyback converter utilizes an isolation transform coupled with two secondary windings to provide galvanic isolation between the input and output sides. One of the secondary windings produces the main output voltage while the other winding produces an auxiliary winding voltage which is used to control the switching of the converter. The controller/driver is an integrated single-chip solution that provides a flexible modulation control, accurate current sensing, and protection features for the flyback converter. The scope probe is used to measure the output voltage and current from the evaluation board.
