LX8117B-05CDT is a step-down switching regulator, when it\'s used as power management integrated circuit (PMIC), it can provide stable output voltage for a variety of electronic systems. It integrates the input switch, the compensation and control circuits, the inductor and the output current limit, making it ideal for a variety of applications. In addition, the output voltage of the rectifier is adjustable and the circuit can also provide fixed-frequency CCM and DCM operation.
In order to meet the power supply and voltage stabilization requirements of LED lighting and display drivers as well as mobile communication base stations and other applications, it adopts an advanced VCORE sense technology that can complete hot-swaps and protect against surge voltages. It also has an integrated circuit with a low quiescent current and low input voltage. With the adjustable output voltage and stable current output, the configuration of this power management integrated circuit is more flexible and reliable.
The working principle of the LX8117B-05CDT is relatively simple, it consists of mainly two parts: the input/output and the feedback/control, when needed, the LX8117B-05CDT also has the added boost converter to meet the different voltage unit requirement.
The input/output section can be divided into two parts. The first part is the input switch circuit. It is mainly used for restoring the output voltage in the case that the input voltage fluctuates greatly. When the input voltage is higher than the output voltage set by the feedback/control circuit, the current flows through the switch circuit to the output capacitor first and is then stored as energy.
At the same time, when the input voltage is lower than the output voltage set by the feedback/control, the switch circuit turns off and the second part of the input/output section takes over. In this case, the output voltage is maintained by supplying power from the output capacitor. Although the input/output section and the secondary control circuit are relatively simple, the combined effect of both parts helps the circuit to provide satisfactory power supply efficiency, output voltage accuracy and dynamic response.
The feedback/control section contains a typical “error amplifier”. It helps to adjust the error of the output voltage according to the control signal form the controller which is usually implemented by a linear voltage regulator. A certain voltage is generated and connected to the error amplifier for the purpose of monitoring the output voltage. If the output voltage is high, the voltage of the error amplifier will be higher than the one from the controller, thus turning the switch on and allowing energy to be stored in the capacitor.
On the other hand, if the output voltage is low, the error amplifier\'s voltage will decrease and the switch will be turned off. In addition, with the help of the linear voltage regulator, the output voltage can then be adjusted properly to achieve the best power supply accuracy.
