Attenuators are used to reduce the electrical power of a signal or to challenge the impedance of the load it is connected to. The M393/25-36S is a high performance, 6-bit digital attenuator that contains six single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switches. Each switch has an input terminal pair, one thru and one switched attenuation terminal, and one output terminal pair.

The M393/25-36S is suitable for many attenuation applications, such as digital attenuator control for isolated power lines, base stations, CATV, VSAT, satellite receivers, mobile phones, TDM transmission, lab instrumentation, and more. It has a maximum input voltage of up to 36V and an integrated switch-off stand-by function to reduce the power consumption of the unit when not used.

The M393/25-36S works by using a digital signal to select which of the six SPDT switches is used, and thus changing the attenuation of the signal. It achieves this by using a square-root switching algorithm that is designed to achieve lower insertion loss and greater accuracy. This also allows the system to respond quickly to changes in signal strength, making it suitable for multiple switching applications.

The M393/25-36S is designed for use with both AC and DC signals, and is able to set the level of the attenuation through two control bits and three voltage channels.
