Evaluation boards sometimes referred to as demo boards are designed by companies offering microprocessors, micro-controllers and digital signal processors (MPUs, MCUs, and DSPs) for the purpose of demonstrating the capabilities of the processor. One of them is M5475EVB evaluation board.

M5475EVB evaluation board is based on Freescale’s MCU 547SXE200 microcontroller family. It integrates an 547SXE200 processor, enabling 100MHz of throughput, and 8KB Flash memory. This board offers a wide range of external connections, including three electrical serial interfaces, a CAN bus, and up to 36 dedicated digital I/Os. This board also provides an integrated switcher and regulator to facilitate power supply and reduce power consumption.

The working principle of M5475EVB is very simple. The processor runs a predefined program to execute instructions. The processor receives the instruction and uses its logic to fetch associated data from the memory. It processes the data and produces the output to the memory. This output is passed on to the system, thus performing its intended function. Depending on the application, the processor can work in single cycle mode, where one instruction is executed at a time; or in multi cycle mode, where more than one instruction can be issued at the same time.
