Malrek00PB168N00K aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in numerous applications. These include AC-DC inverters, UPS systems, bridge rectifiers, electronic ballaster, motor control and many more. The capacitor has a load life of 1600 hours at 85 degrees C, with insulation of 1KV and a capacitance range of 2.2uF to 47uF. One of the most important characteristics of the capacitor is that it has a high ripple current capability.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors have a wide acceptance in today’s industry for their remarkable performance and long life. They comprise of a number of layers, including an anode, a cathode, an electrolyte solution and aluminum oxide layer, which are heavily rolled up and sealed in a cylindrical case. This makes them very efficient and reliable.

Working principle of aluminum electrolytic capacitor depends on the fundamental property of electrolytes that they are able to carry electrical current through ionization process. An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is essentially a reversed polarized low-resistive resistor. The electrolyte acts as the ‘gate’ to the cap and it is between the two electrodes.

When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, the electrolyte accepts protons from the anode and combines them with electrons from the cathode to form ions. These ions move through the electrolyte solution and become the source of the electric current across the capacitor and its terminals. When the voltage is released, the ions return to their original state.

In terms of electric current, the capacitor has the potential to behave as both a resistor and a capacitor in varying circumstances. As the voltage increases, the capacitor releases a current of increasing intensity, up to its maximum rated value. When the voltage is high, the capacitor acts as a permanent resistor and does not permit the further flow of current. As such, the capacitor can act as both a capacitor and a resistor depending on the given situation.

The capacitor’s construction and performance characteristics make it an ideal choice for applications in which quality and reliability are a primary concern. Its long life, ruggedness and high ripple current capability make it a cost-effective solution for many different industries.
