The MAX11057ECB+T provides reliable and efficient data acquisition from analog to digital converters (ADC). The MAX11057ECB+T contains a high-performance 6-bit A/D conversion core, two offset-compensated, gain-regulated low-drift voltage supplies, and two termination networks allowing the user to directly drive both the external ADC and preamplifier. The onboard voltage reference voltage and two termination networks are designed to minimize distortion and improve stability. The wide-range reference can easily be adjusted with a low-noise digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

The MAX11057ECB+T includes built-in calibration and monitoring functions. The onboard ADC and reference monitoring are used to assess data integrity, for example, for noise estimation, power dissipation, gain, offset, and other performance characteristics. The device also facilitates built-in low-power sleep mode, timestamping, and error-correcting codes (ECCs).

The MAX11057ECB+T’s operating temperature range is from -40°C to 85°C. The device is enclosed in a 24-pin wide-temperature plastic QFN package. It is qualified to meet MIL-STD-883 standards, including Extended Temperature/Humidity limits. Its designed to work with high-speed FPGAs, CPLDs and ASICs. It supports direct interface to FPGAs and CPLDs.

Internally, the device consists of a high-performance electrical loop that provides the basic analog-to-digital conversion. This loop is configured as a voltage divider and has two resistors that control the full-scale range. A high-precision op amp is included to monitor the voltage across these two resistors and provide the control signals required by the ADC. The input voltage applied to the device is converted to a digital output code based on the conversion ratio and full-scale range.

The reference voltage is generated directly from the on-chip DAC, providing excellent accuracy and stability. Theres also an additional internal voltage reference for measurement, providing an additional reference source. The voltage reference is adjustable with a low-noise DAC. This enables the user to program an exact reference voltage without the need for external adjustment.

The termination networks optimize the performance of the external ADC and preamplifier by providing a low-noise, low-distortion way of driving the external circuit. The reference monitoring feature is used to detect reference voltage drops and provide deactivation, protection, and alerting mechanism. The sleep mode can be used to ensure that the device does not draw unnecessary power when not in use. The timestamping feature enables a high-precision recording and/or logging of data.
