The Maxim 1358BETL+ is a low-cost parallel interface low-power “microcoin-cell” battery monitor. The 1358BETL+ monitors the microcoin cell for voltage variations and provides electronic control over battery save operation, allowing for longer battery life and greater reliability. The 1358BETL+ is designed for a wide range of applications, and is available in a variety of packages, making it ideal for low-power, cost-sensitive designs.The 1358BETL+ encompasses several features that make it a powerful, versatile and easy to use monitoring device. The 1358BETL+ includes adjustable output configurations, voltage reporting, hysteresis, low quiescent current, ultra low power operation and programmable overcharge and undercharge protection. The 1358BETL+ allows users to customize their monitoring operation by setting the simplest of parameters, including the voltage threshold, output drive capability, and hysteresis width. These parameters are easy to set and are adjustable while the device is actively monitoring the battery.The 1358BETL+ offers users high accuracy, flexibility and reliable system performance in battery monitoring applications. The device offers an adjustable voltage threshold detection range, high impedance input flexibility, enhanced diagnostic capabilities and monitoring of up to 4 batteries. It also offers users programmable status outputs, allowing for control of external circuitry or user-defined alarms.In battery monitoring applications, the 1358BETL+ simplifies design and provides accurate, reliable monitoring. It allows for the use of fewer components, as the device can be configured to monitor multiple batteries simultaneously. Its Hysteresis feature has been enhanced to provide true support for a longer operating life, and to eliminate temperature effects for improved accuracy.The 1358BETL+ also eliminates the need for user calibration as the device is pre-calibrated at the factory. This pre-calibration improves the speed of product deployment, as the user can quickly apply their settings and begin monitoring the battery quickly and easily.In its working principle, the 1358BETL+ is a low-power, feature-rich battery monitor. Its ultra low power consumption and self-contain programming makes it ideal for battery-powered devices, and its adjustable thresholds and flexible output configurations make it well-suited for a wide range of applications.The 1358BETL+ begins by introducing its adjustable parameters into the circuit. This allows for user-defined voltage thresholds, hysteresis, delay, and output configuration. Once these parameters are set, the device can begin actively monitoring the battery, providing robust, accurate protection.The 1358BETL+ also features adaptive overcharge and undercharge protection features, as well as sophisticated user-defined voltage reporting. This reporting is generated through the use of on-chip comparator, where the output is “open drain” type of output. As soon as the monitored cell reaches a pre-defined voltage level, the device turns the output pin “on”, producing a logic LOW output.The 1358BETL+ also incorporates an adjustable delay for the status output, allowing for additional protection for battery-powered systems. Once the delay is set, the device monitors the cell until it reaches the preset voltage threshold, and then waits for the programmable delay period to expire before asserting a logic LOW on the output to further protect the monitored circuit.The Maxim 1358BETL+ is ideal for low-power systems, providing accurate, reliable battery monitoring. Its adjustable thresholds and small size make it ideal for a wide range of applications, and its ease of use makes it a favorite among design engineers.
