Data acquisition is the process of sampling signals that measure real world physical conditions and converting the resulting samples into digital numeric values that can be manipulated by a computer. ADCs (analog to digital converters) and DACs (digital to analog converters) are two common devices used in data acquisition systems. Working Principle of MAX138CQH+TD

A basic diagram of the device is displayed in Fig. 1. This device contains a single monostable which can be configured to generate a pulse at a given duration, dependent on a tunable threshold voltage (set externally) across the C1 capacitor. The timing resistor R Th and a capacitor C S act together to set the period of the output pulse. The internal circuit of the device consists of a controlled switch (SW1), a comparator, an adjustable voltage reference, logic circuitry and a current and temperature sensor.

When a pulse is applied to the device and its voltage exceeds the threshold level, the comparator output goes high. This signal is applied to SW1 control allowing this switch to close connecting C1 with the circuit. C1 charge is then connected to the timing circuit, causing the output signal to rise and change its state. After the duration of the pulse is over, an output signal is generated and the current flow to RC circuit is stopped. When the voltage across C1 discharge to the threshold level, SW1 is opened turning IC off.
