MAX15000AEUB+ is a synchronous step-down 4.5V to 16V switch controller specifically designed to drive two low-side N-Channel MOSFETs in a synchronous step-down converter. This device is part of a larger family of synchronous step-down controller products. These products are classified as PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Controllers.The MAX15000AEUB+ is optimized for space-constrained applications. It off ers high efficiency, great output ripple rejection, superior power density, and fast transient response. The device includes controllable overload protection and a wide range of features for almost any application requiring a DC/DC step-down (buck) converter.The MAX15000AEUB+ applications include automotive and industrial, telecommunications, computer/peripheral, laptop and desktop, power tool, medical, avionic, gaming and consumer applications. In automotive applications, for example, the MAX15000AEUB+ provides a cost-effective solution for powering RTC, relays, radios, and LCD screens. In the industrial space, it can be used to drive the cooling fans, power the communications and security systems, and provide a reliable power source in harsh operating environments.Working Principle:The MAX15000AEUB+ uses a switched current-mode pulse-width modulation (PWM) control topology, consisting of a voltage-mode loop that controls an external driver, as well as an internal modulator. This operation is depicted in the block diagram above.The modulator drives the low-side power MOSFET and operates using the MIC2185 external driver, creating a constant-frequency, variable-duty cycle waveform. The waveform peaks at the switching frequency and the output voltage waveform follows the variable-duty cycle PWM.The voltage-mode loop utilizes an externally trimmed voltage reference with an extremely low temperature drift, precision integrated current sense amplifier, and a bandgap reference. The voltage loop has a tightly controlled over-current limit and slope compensation control and includes current limit protection.
