AbstractThis article presents an overview of the application field and working principle of the MAX15002ATL+ DC DC Switching Controller. It introduces the device characteristics, pin configurations, and protection features. Furthermore, the hardware and software components of the system are discussed. Finally, some of the advantages and disadvantages of the MAX15002ATL+ are discussed. IntroductionThe MAX15002ATL+ DC DC switching controller is a wide input voltage range, high efficiency, and high current step-down DC DC converter. It features a 2.0V - 6.0V input voltage range, a 4.0V - 35V output voltage range, and up to 4A continuous output current. In addition, the device is packed in a compact 8-pin TSSOP-EP package for space saving and easy mounting. Device CharacteristicsThe MAX15002ATL+ has many distinguishing device characteristics. It integrates a 300mV power-good indicator with an internal reference voltage and a 0.6V logic threshold. It also integrates the PWM switching logic and the synchronous rectifier with zero current switching. The MAX15002ATL+ has a wide input voltage range with factory-trimmed start-up accuracy, and can be programmed for up to 4A output current. It also has low residual voltage drop due to the use of high-efficiency synchronous rectification. Furthermore, a unique feature of this device is that it supports OTP programming of the soft-start time along with a wide set of OTP parameters. The MAX15002ATL+ is also equipped with two on-chip over-temperature protection features, one restrictive over-temperature protection (ROTP) and the other overtemperature protection (OTP). The ROTP feature limits the output current of the device when the temperature exceeds a certain threshold, while the OTP feature counts the total number of high-temperature events since the device has been powered on and shuts down the output if the threshold has been reached. Pin ConfigurationsThe MAX15002ATL+ is available in an 8-pin TSSOP-EP package that provides both a small size and easy mounting. It has the following pin configurations:- VIN – This is the input voltage pin. It is used to supply power to the device and should be connected to a voltage source that is between 2.0V and 6.0V.
- FB – The feedback pin is used to detect the output voltage of the converter and to inform the device of the expected target voltage.
- GND – The ground pin is connected to the ground of the power source.
- ENA – This is the enable pin, which is used to enable or disable the device.
- SYNC – This is the synchronization pin, which is used to synchronize the switching frequency of the device.
- PG – This is the power-good pin, which is used to indicate the output voltage of the converter.
- RESET – This is the reset pin. It is used to reset the device.
