The MAX15023ETG+ is part of a family of high-performance, fixed-frequency, synchronous step-up DC-DC switching controllers that are designed to provide high-efficiency, low-noise power conversion with very low quiescent current in battery-powered applications. The MAX15023ETG+ supports both step-up and step-down voltage operation and can drive a wide range of power MOSFETs for optimal efficiency, allowing for energy savings and longer battery life.

The MAX15023ETG+ provides power conversion with superior efficiency, very low stand-by current consumption, low output noise and wide input voltage range. The device operates from a single 2V to 20V supply and has an adjustable output voltage range of 1.28V to 20V with a maximum output current of 1.8A. The MAX15023ETG+ is a highly integrated device that includes a low quiescent current (IQ) internal power supply, adjustable soft-start, accurate current limit, thermal shutdown circuitry, and open load detection to protect the system and maximize system reliability.

The MAX15023ETG+ device operates in a phase-shift current mode control, where the input voltage and the output voltage form a loop, extended by a pulse generator. When the output voltage exceeds the loop voltage, the pulse generator shuts down the current source, which results in a decrease in the current source and a decrease of the output voltage. By monitoring the loop voltage, the current source will track the output voltage through the feedback.

The MAX15023ETG+ offers a variety of features to maximize performance, efficiency, and accuracy. It has an adjustable soft-start which allows for a gradual ramp-up of the output voltage to minimize the inrush current and reduce board stress. It also features an adjustable current limit and a adjustable frequency to provide a margin for design flexibility. Additionally, the MAX15023ETG+ has an open-drain Enhanced Power-Good (EPWRGD) output pin, which can detect and alert the system of an output voltage fault condition.

The MAX15023ETG+ is an ideal solution for powering a wide variety of single/multi-cell Li-Ion and alkaline battery applications, such as fully-integrated consumer electronics like portable media players, mobile phones, digital cameras, notebook computers, and game consoles.
