MAX15104EWL+T is a single-channel, low-side and 15V current-limit load switch, which integrates a low-side MOSFET and fault/status flags for over-temperature (OT), thermal shutdown, over-voltage (OV), and over-current (OC). It also includes a power-good (PG) output supply and an enable input, allowing to turn on/off the load switch with a TTL or CMOS level. The device is a perfect choice for acting as the low-side switch in the power distribution system or power management applications.

Working Principle

The MAX15104EWL+T is configured as a low-side, open-drain current-limit load switch with unique architecture, comprised of an MOSFET and several logic circuits. The current-limit is implemented by sensing the output voltage of the MOSFET across an external sense resistor. If an over-current condition is detected, the device will shut down the MOSFET, disconnecting the load, and asserting the OC fault flag.

The device can also detect an over-temperature, over-voltage and thermal shutdown condition. In addition, the MAX15104EWL+T can remain connected to the load even if the voltage across the load exceeds the 15V limitation. This is due to the built-in Zener diode that holds the MOSFET gate at 15V, regardless of the output voltage across the load.

Other features of the MAX15104EWL+T include a power-good indicator, an enable input and a low standby current. The power good indicator will indicate whether the device is powered on or not, allowing for a neat system shutdown in case of power failure.
