The MAX16016LTBS+T is a microprocessor core power-on reset (POR) supervisor ICs optimized for processor-based systems that require high accuracy and low quiescent current. This integrated system provides 40ms to 200ms of power-on reset timeout and an active-low, push-pull reset output.
The MAX16016 is available in two versions. The LT version operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C while the LTBS version processes up to a +150°C operating temperature. No external components are necessary in most applications. With its minimum reset pulse-width of 20ms, the MAX16016 is designed to survive transients from low- and high-side transistors. It also features an extensive monitoring capability, including input voltage and reset time-out monitoring.
Application Field
The MAX16016 is designed to provide an extremely accurate, low power, and robust power-on reset for a variety of processor-based systems. It is ideally suited for microprocessors, microcontrollers, Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), and embedded system applications. The MAX16016 can be used in a variety of power-on reset applications, ranging from power supply sequencing in high-end network routers and switches to powering up embedded systems such as fuel-injection and climate-control controllers.
Working Principle
The MAX16016 monitors the input voltage and times it over a fixed period. A low active-low, push-pull reset output is issued when the voltage drops below the preset threshold or when the fixed monitoring period is exceeded. When the input voltage returns above the preset threshold, the output reset is asserted low. The reset output will remain active until the monitoring period has elapsed, thereby ensuring that the system is reset without relying on the decay of the input voltage.
The user-programmable fixed reset timeout, ranging from 40ms to 200ms, provides a fail-safe mechanism in the event of a voltage abnormality. The reset output will remain low until the fixed timeout period has expired, thereby resetting the system. The reset output is debounced using a 3μs RC filter, eliminating potential false triggers.
The MAX16016 also features input voltage and reset time-out monitoring that allows the user to monitor the power supply voltage and reset time-out functions. A reset time-out flag is set if the reset time-out period is exceeded. Upon detection of an input voltage or reset time-out indication, an active-low push-pull reset signal is issued.
The MAX16016 features multiple supply monitoring functions. The 5V and 3V supplies are monitored for dropouts, shorts to ground, and open circuit faults. If a fault is detected, an active-low push-pull reset signal is issued.
The MAX16016 contains two die-sensing diodes that detect power-supply voltage dropouts and over-voltage levels. If a fault is detected, an active-low push-pull reset signal is issued. The MAX16016 also contains a watchdog timer whose output can be connected to an external device, such as a processor. It can be used to detect power supply faults or processor lockup. If a fault is detected, an active low push-pull reset signal is issued.
The MAX16016 is a superior choice for portable consumer electronics applications. The device is available in a compact DSBGA package and is RoHS compliant. It also offers a low typical quiescent current of 2μA in Standby mode.
