When it comes to PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) supervisors, one of the most notable devices on the market is the MAX16021LTEW+. Developed by Maxim Integrated, this field-programmable supervisor offers several features that make it well-suited for applications such as automotive, industrial, and smart grid, as well as many other systems that require power management solutions.
At its core, the MAX16021LTEW+ is a voltage supervisor that monitors an external voltage supply, and if it drops below a preset voltage level, will remove power from the load, disconnect it, and activate an output alarm. This alarm is then sent to a microcontroller or system controller, allowing the user to respond to any sudden change in power supply.(as pic 1)

Unlike other supervisors, the MAX16021LTEW+ provides users with the flexibility to set the warning and trip points on their own. This is done through programming resistors on the integrated input protection circuit, allowing users to customize the supervisor according to their specific applications.(as pic 2)

The MAX16021LTEW+ also offers an active voltage monitor (AVM), which is used to detect any changes in the supply rail that could cause the supervisor to shut down. The AVM is used to continuously monitor the supply rail, and if the rail voltage rises or falls outside of the predetermined levels, the AVM will detect the out-of-tolerance conditions and alert the user by turning on a front-panel warning LED.
The MAX16021LTEW+ also features a toggling Reset, which can be used to reset a microcontroller or other load in the event of an overvoltage, undervoltage, or brownout condition. It also provides an adjustable voltage threshold, which allows users to set the warning and trip points according to their needs.
MAX16021LTEW+ comes with two selectable Reset delay times. An internal hardware start-up delay helps to ensure that the Reset will stay asserted for a predetermined period of time, regardless of whether the input voltage is rising or falling. Additionally, an adjustable Reset duration time can be used to extend the amount of time it takes for the Reset to deassert.
The MAX16021LTEW+ also includes an integrated thermal protection circuit that monitors the system temperature and turns on a warning LED when the temperature exceeds a certain level. This feature makes it well-suited for applications that must operate in extreme temperatures and/or high vibration levels.
In summary, the MAX16021LTEW+ is an ideal solution for applications that require an adjustable voltage supervisor, temperature monitoring, and a reset delay.
