The MAX1649CPA+ is an analog switch controller designed for step-down (buck) and boost converters. It reduces switching ripple and power dissipation, while maintaining tight line regulation and output accuracy. This controller also helps prevent high peak-currents during line transients or load changes. It is ideal in space-constrained applications, and can be used with a wide range of external components, providing flexibility and improved performance.

The controller also features a comprehensive set of features, with an integrated overvoltage protection circuit, and wide-VIN and output-voltage ranges. In addition, the MAX1649CPA+ offers an adjustable soft-start time and an integrated current limit circuit.

Working Principle

The MAX1649CPA+ is an ultra-low power buck-mode or boost-mode driver, providing precise control of output voltage or current. It includes an internally compensated buck/boost hysteretic controller, a logic controlled power switch, and an oscillator with programmable switching frequency and soft-start time. The hysteretic controller comprises a comparator that senses the output of the driver and feeds back a proportional voltage or current. This feedback is sensed by an applied comparator reference voltage and feeds back a signal to the controller which adjusts the output voltage/current as necessary. The logic controlled power switch connects and disconnects the power distribution unit continuously to prevent overvoltage faults and to provide lower switching losses.

The MAX1649CPA+ has additional features such as voltage and current limit, and over-temperature protection. These features help in increasing the reliability of the system and providing the best possible performance. As for the other features, the MAX1649CPA+ has an adjustable high-side power switch which can be used for adjusting the maximum output voltage, a programmable input voltage range, and a low-side power switch which helps in providing low ripple power supply in boost applications.
