The MAX16910 is a dual independent power-management integrated circuit (PMIC) designed for a wide range of applications including automotive and industrial. This PMIC contains two synchronous high-side power switches, a high- and low-side current sensing circuit, two low-side MOSFETs, two low-side current-sense amplifiers, an error amplifier and an analog and digital input monitor. The MAX16910 is designed to provide precise control of output voltage, current-limit protection, precise current-sensing, over temperature protection and a host of other features. It provides two independent supply voltages and two independent voltage-regulation levels, enabling precise power-management for designs that require two separate and isolated power supplies.
The MAX16910 is optimized for automotive and industrial use, providing better current-load regulation and improved transient response compared to traditional linear regulators. It operates over an input voltage range of 2.7V to 60V, providing an output voltage-regulation range of 2.7V to 5.5V. The MAX16910 contains five independent operational modes: data9/V+T, current-limit, burst, modulation and force off. The MAX16910 also supports Input Load Disconnect Protection (ILDP) and Power-On Reset (POR) modes.
Data9/V+T Application Field and Working Principle: The Data9/V+T mode of the MAX16910 is optimized for vehicle applications, allowing precise voltage and current regulation. The Data9/V+T mode employs a variable pulse width modulation scheme that constantly adjusts the output voltage by varying the gate drive of the MOSFETs. In this mode, the output voltage is regulated under steady state and dynamic loads. The pulse width modulation scheme is based on an internally generated Data9 signal, ensuring accurate regulating of the output voltage. The Data9 signal is used to control the current limit as well as the output voltage. The internal Data9 signal can also be used to control the output current. Additionally, the MAX16910 also supports an external control or override of the pulse width modulation.
The Data9/V+T mode also supports a Controlled Inductive Load (CIL) feature, which allows the MAX16910 to detect and regulate the output current when a controlled inductive load is connected. The CIL feature is ideal for use in motor control and lighting applications. Finally, the MAX16910 supports an external voltage tracking input (V+) that can be used to precisely control the output voltage.
