The MAX17023CAUI/V+ is a DC-DC switching controller designed to provide a regulated output voltage with a minimum of external components. The device is designed to operate as a constant-current source or constant-voltage source, and can operate in either open-loop or closed-loop feedback modes. The device is optimized for high efficiency and delivers fast transient response. It is suitable for use in applications such as power distribution and line regulation, distributed power architectures, and battery-powered systems.

The MAX17023CAUI/V+ includes a pair of low-side and high-side gate drivers to control a pair of external synchronous MOSFETs in a buck, boost, or buck/boost topology. It is capable of delivering output voltages from 0.6V up to 6V, and provides continuous-conduction operation in buck and boost modes. The switching frequency is adjustable between 150kHz to 1.2MHz and it can achieve up to 95% efficiency. The device also provides adjustable output current limiter and adjustable soft-start.

The MAX17023CAUI/V+ features an internal error amplifier, allowing it to operate in closed-loop regulation mode or in open-loop switch mode. The internal error amplifier has an adjustable voltage reference, allowing the device to be set up to regulate with a wide voltage range. Additionally, the device features an overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit to protect the output from high-voltage transients. The integrated OVP circuit can be used to limit the output voltage to the user-defined maximum level.

The MAX17023CAUI/V+ also includes an integrated over-temperature protection (OTP) circuit which shuts down the device when it reaches a temperature of 125°C. The device also integrates a power-good indicator, that is asserted when the output is within 10% of the desirable output voltage when operating in a closed-loop mode. The integrated enable pin allows the user to turn on and off the device. It also includes a latch enable pin for applications needing current limit protection. Additionally, the device features integrated undervoltage lockout (UVLO) circuitry to prevent low voltage conditions.
