MAX17606AZT+ is a highly integrated, programmable PMIC (Power Supply Controllers, Monitors) for Li+ battery chemistries, designed to maximize the battery cycle life for high power applications. The IC integrates all primary requirement blocks for Li+ chemistries: switching PowerPath controller, high efficiency synchronous buck converter, 5-bit adjustable regulator, and 8-bit adjustable fuel gauge in the same package.

Features and Specifications

The MAX17606A offers a wide range of features and specifications helping customers to get the most efficient and reliable power delivery from Li+ batteries. The device offers high voltage and power supply tolerance, with an adjustable output voltage of 0.6 V to 6 V, a programmable switching frequency of up to 2 MHz, and a programmable power path current limit. In addition, it features an adjustable GATE driver capability to control current level in Li+ cells, and a programmable power-on reset delay. The MAX17606A offers a wide range of features to improve the life of Li+ batteries, including the capability to monitor cell status and temperature, and to detect faults such as over voltage and under voltage. It also provides an adjustable current limit, programmable power path current limit, power on reset delay, adjustable switching frequency, and adjustable voltage regulator. The MAX17606A includes integrated safety features such as overcurrent detection, over temperature protection (OTP) to reduce risk of fire, and an adjustable over voltage protection (OVP) for controlling short circuit currents. It also provides integrated output short circuit and over temperature protection as well as adjustable over voltage protection (OVP).

Working Principle

The MAX17606A uses an integrated synchronous buck converter with an adjustable output switch frequency, which helps to maximize efficiency. The device utilizes a fixed-frequency hysteretic control technique to regulate the output voltage on the output of the power supply. The fixed-frequency hysteretic control technique ensures a fast turn on and turn off of the output voltage and prevents the formation of ringing on the output voltage.The device also features adjustable over-current protection and adjustable output voltage with a precision of 0.1%. The device operates in either single or dual cell modes, with adjustable voltage ranges of 1.8 V to 6 V, adjustable current limits of 0.3 A, and adjustable peak switching current of 1.2A.The MAX17606A is designed with an integrated PowerPath controller to handle all the necessary protection functions such as over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current. The PowerPath controller ensures smooth transitions between voltage, current and battery chemistries, and helps to extend the life of the Li+ cells. The device also features an adjustable GATE drivercircuit, enabling customers to program the current level for Li+ cells and ensure optimal battery cycle life. The MAX17606A also includes an 8-bit fuel gauge with adjustable operating temperature ranges, allowing customers to monitor and control the charge state of the battery. The fuel gauge also includes a low battery detection circuit, enabling customers to monitor and control the battery\'s health in real time.
