Application Field

The MAX196ACWI is capable of addressing a wide range of application fields. It features two integrated, simultaneous sampling 10-bit successive approximation (SAR) analog-to-digital converters, each with up to 150ksamples/s conversion rate. Working Principle

The MAX196ACWI is a successive approximation converter (SAR) which works by successively sampling the analog input and comparing it to an internal reference voltage. Each time the reference voltage is adjusted, the sampled input is compared to the updated reference voltage until the two are equal. The number of cycles of comparison required for the reference voltage to reach the analog input is equivalent to the input voltage’s value.

To ensure the highest resolution possible from the device and to ensure compatibility with external devices, the MAX196ACWI supports both single-ended and differential input sampling. The device also support up to four differential analog inputs and up to 1500k samples/s conversion rate.

The MAX196ACWI also features an integrated programmable gain amplifier (PGA), which allows the user to quickly adjust the analog input to an optimal level, without the need for any external components. In addition, the device also has an integrated reference buffer, which allows for quick and easy changes to the reference voltage, without the need for external components.
