MAX20094ATIA/VY+ is an advanced power management integrated circuit (PMIC) for battery charging applications. It provides up to 4A of adjustable selectable current and adjustable 4.2V voltage. It also offers low-dropout regulation, thermal monitoring, voltage and current monitoring, battery short protection, overvoltage protection and overtemperature protection. It is ideal for portable systems, power banks, battery packs and laptop chargers.
In a battery charging application, the MAX20094ATIA/VY+ PMIC regulates the input voltage and current to the battery. It also monitors the battery voltage and current, which can be used to provide feedback to a controller to adjust the battery charging parameters in order to ensure optimum efficiency and safety. The MAX20094ATIA/VY+ PMIC is also capable of detecting overloaded or shorted battery conditions and will shut down the charging circuit before any damage to the battery or circuitry can occur.
The MAX20094ATIA/VY+ PMIC has adjustable input current and output voltage. The input current can be programmed through the I2C to provide a charging rate of up to 4A. The output voltage can be set up to 4.2V, depending on the specified charger. The output voltage is set via an external resistor divider network and can be programmed from the I2C interface as well. There is also a “Sleep” mode which can be enabled for low power applications.
The MAX20094ATIA/VY+ PMIC also includes a thermal monitoring feature that can be used to protect against over-temperature conditions. The thermal monitor will shut down the charger if the temperature exceeds a programmable threshold.
