The MAX202CSE is a monolithic communication interface IC designed to interface between standard serial logic levels and true RS-232 levels. It comes in a 8-pin DIP package and is suitable for many applications that require a low level of power consumption. It is suitable for applications such as: mobile phones, modems, PCMCIA cards, digital cameras, and other communication devices.
The MAX202CSE integrates three drivers with one receiver in the same package, resulting in increased system performance with minimal board space. The device uses two high-speed line drivers and one low-speed line driver for driving a variety of output signals and features true RS-232 compatibility. It has a supply voltage range from 4.5V to 5.5V and has current consumption of 6mA.
The MAX202CSE has two input lines, one for logic low (L) and one for logic high (H) and two output lines, one for logic high (H) and one for logic low (L). The device is a low-power transceiver, and it features a pin-inversion feature that truely flips the logic level of the output signal. When the data is transmitted in one direction, the output signal is always the opposite of the input signal. This feature eliminates the need for external inverters or resistors.
