The MAX20730EVKIT is one of the industry-leading evaluation boards for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS, providing designers with an easy-to-use tool for power system testing and design evaluations. This evaluation board allows engineers to quickly and accurately evaluate switching power supplies to understand their true performance. This board has a wide range of applications in automotive and industrial power management, for both AC and DC systems. Additionally, the board is equipped with a high performance MAX20730 controller, enabling performance tuning and optimization.
The MAX20730 EVKIT has four main components for evaluation and testing:
- The active power stage
- The control stage
- The monitor and program stage
- The power stage feedback loop control
The active power stage of the board consists of an MTD696128 MOSFET, a synchronous rectifier SRF1A160, a 0-40MHz quartz oscillator and three MAX21160 MOSFET drivers. This stage provides high-efficiency AC/DC conversion and high-quality power components for reliable power system performance. The MAX21160 is a synchronous MOSFET driver with a wide input voltage range and low operating current. This IC also provides integrated bootstrap protection, built-in gate drive precharge and optimized EMI.
The control stage is based on the MAX20730 four-phase integrated PWM converter controller. This IC integrates a four-phase PWM controller, a rugged current sensing circuit, a low-noise SPWM control loop and a low-noise full-range PWM control loop. The MAX20730 also provides a wide range of features that make it suitable for AC/DC SMPS applications, including fast transient recovery, advanced load line control and seamless operation over a wide operating range.
The monitor and program stage of the board includes the MAX20636 and MAX20698 display ICs. The MAX20636 is a low-voltage monitoring IC with programmable thresholds and two separate outputs for system monitoring. The MAX20698 is an energy-management IC that features input power monitoring, regulated output current and circuit protection functions.
The power feedback loop control of the board is based on the MAX20730’s patented power-stage control loop. This loop automatically optimizes the duty cycle of the switching power stage to maintain maximum efficiency in changing load conditions. It also provides protection against over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature conditions.
The MAX20730EVKIT is a versatile evaluation board designed to fully evaluate the performance of AC/DC and DC/DC switched-mode power supplies. It provides a wide range of testing capabilities, and the wide range of features makes this board suitable for applications in automotive and industrial power management. This evaluation board also makes it easy for designers to quickly evaluate the performance of switching power supplies and understand their true performance.
