The MAX20745EVKIT# is a DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS evaluation board designed to evaluate and demonstrate the features of the MAX20745, a single-chip offline AC/DC converter IC that employs advanced proprietary valley-switching (VS) topologies. It is suitable for a variety of applications, including computing (desktop and server power supplies, and battery chargers), non- ITE (industrial and telecom equipment power supplies), industrial drives and motors, consumer appliances, lighting, and more.The MAX20745 has a rugged, highly integrated power system design that efficiently converts mains input voltages (85VAC to 265VAC) to regulated outputs. It has a wide operating temperature range and meets worldwide EMI requirements. The EVKIT# includes protection features such as over-current protection, over-voltage protection, short-circuit protection, reverse current protection, uncommitted open loop protection, and connected-load protection. The EVKIT# also offers flexibility in configuring an optimal power system, and includes features such as programmable settings to optimize the power system for efficiency or highest power output. The internal circuitry of the MAX20745 consists of two sections – a controller circuit and an output power stage. The controller receives power through its external pins, and the control signals from the control block are sent to the output power stage, whereupon the selected output voltage is generated. The control section has an 8-bit DAC, which is adjustable using a digital potentiometer or a switching Input (SMI) capacitor connected through an adjustable resistor divider.The output power stage is responsible for controlling the switching behavior of power devices such as MOSFETs, which convert the energy stored in an input DC-Link capacitor into a regulated output voltage. The output voltage can be adjusted by varying the resistance values of the outputs of the power stage. The two sections are connected through a logic signal, and the switching of the capacitors is performed as per the logic signal generated from the control section.To optimize the power system of the MAX20745, important parameters such as output voltage, output current, switching frequency, and operating temperature range can be adjusted by programming an external serial EEPROM configured by the EVKIT#. This allows users to quickly configure the MAX20745 for their application, and ensure optimal performance.
