MAX24188EVKIT is a complete evaluation board from Maxim Integrated designed to evaluate the performance of MAX24188 isolated power supply controller and MAX13236 isolated digital interface. The evaluation board contains a dc-dc converter based on MAX17263 high-voltage integrated power module (IPM) for secondary side application including industrial, communications, and medical application.
The MAX17263 IPM is a high-efficiency single-stage integrated DC-DC converter that features fixed or adjustable output voltage ratings from 0.8V to 8V. It is capable of delivering up to 24A of continuous load current on the 125V bus voltage. The output power is up to 192W and the switching frequency is 400 kHz. The configuration can be adjusted easily with various external components such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors.
MAX24188EVKIT is supported by Windows 7/8/10 and Linux operating systems and provides complete software packages for evaluation and demonstration purposes. The evaluation board includes the Peripheral Driver Library (PDL) to simplify firmware development and the MAX24188 Windows/Linux GUI software for parameter setup and functional tests.
The MAX24188EVKIT board provides adjustable external bias through the port provided on the board and also supports a live plugging of SMA connectors which can be used to measure monitoring related signals such as output voltage, output current, phase voltage, and phase current. The board also includes a USB to UART converter and USB interface for easy PC access.
The MAX24188PSE isolated power supply controller from Maxim Integrated provides a wide range of features such as overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, and frequency synchronization. It includes soft start and stop logic for improved startup performance. The MAX24188 can be easily integrated with the MAX13236 isolated digital interface to implement isolated digital interface for communication between the system load and power supply controller.
The MAX24188PSE operation is based on the synchronous rectification principle which involves the use of both switches and an inductor in the power supply circuit. The power stage consists of a pair of MOSFET switches: a low side switch and a high side switch. The inductor is used to store energy in the form of magnetic field when one of the switches is closed. The energy stored in the inductor is transferred to the system load through the other switch which is kept in open condition.
The MAX24188PSE can be configured to operate in two different modes depending on the current requirements of the system load. The first mode is the Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) in which the output current is maintained at a constant level by adjusting the duty cycle of the MOSFET switches. In the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), the output current is maintained at a lower level by turning off the MOSFET switch at the peak of the inductor current.
MAX24188EVKIT is an excellent tool for evaluating the performance of MAX24188 isolated power supply controllers and MAX13236 isolated digital interfaces in industrial, communication and medical application. It provides a comprehensive software package to enable easy experimentations and demonstration purpose. The board includes a wide range of features such as adjustable external bias and supports USB to UART converter for easy PC access.
