The MAX2624EUA+ RF Misc ICs and Modules device is a high-linearity, dual-band variable-gain amplifier (VGA) designed to deliver high performance in a very small package. The device also features integrated 3-state low pass filters, variable gain control, and temperature compensation. It is ideal for a wide variety of wireless applications such as radio and TV broadcast, cellular phones, and RFID receivers where gain variation is required.
The device operates from a single +2.7V to +3.6V supply and integrates two variable gain amplifiers in a single 5-pin package. According to the manufacturer, the device provides an input-referred noise figure of 2.1 dB and an input-referred gain range of 27.9 dB. In addition, the device offers a high Peaking Time of 100 μs and an automatic gain control gain sensitivity rate of 0.5 dB per octave.
The device is designed to provide excellent linearity for both the loop and direct gain control paths. The loop gain control recovers from an input overload level of +6 dBm with a time of less than 100 μs. The direct gain control has a zero-dBm sensitivity while providing low phase noise, high gain accuracy, and wide bandwidth.
The MAX2624EUA+ provides high linearity and wide dynamic range with an output 1 dB compression point of +17 dBm. The device is temperature compensated and includes an externally controllable 3-state low pass filter. The low pass filter has a low loss characteristic with a 3-dB cut off frequency of 2.2 GHz, and a 5-dB cutoff frequency of 4.4 GHz.
The integrated power down and mute modes offer the user an economical way to reduce current consumption. Operating the device in power down mode reduces the current consumption to 50 μA. Operating the device in mute mode reduces the current consumption to 2 μA.
The MAX2624EUA+ is ideal for a variety of high performance RF applications. The device is suitable for applications including cellular phones, RFID receivers, radio and television broadcast, and military radio communication systems.
