Maxim Integrated\'s MAX2690EVKIT develops RF IC evaluation and development from broad-band applications for cellular Tx/Rx path. It provides a solution for 2G/3G/4G cellular I/Q evaluation, testing, and development. This platform supports the MAX2690, a compact, integrated single-chip broadband RFIC tuned to the cellular address space. This reference design is an all-in-one evaluation platform which includes an MCU board evaluation kit, a signal generation and measurement board, and a MAX2690 RFIC. The boards are unified by an RF interconnect to form a highly integrated evaluation system. With this integrated system, it is easy to evaluate and develop the MAX2690 in a cellular application.
The MAX2690EVKIT evaluation board includes a MCU board evaluation kit (Maxim MAXREFDES130) with an MCU, on-board antennas, user-interfacing tactile switches and an array of LEDs. This MCU board kit contains a built-in dual-channel receiver. The signal generation and measurement board contains a Ziffer Technologies ZX451A signal generator and a dual-channel spectrum analyzer. The generator and analyzer are connected to an RF interconnect, which helps to aid in the direct RF connections between the MAX2690IC, the MCU board evaluation kit, and the signal generation and measurement board.
The MAX2690RFIC includes a low-noise amplifier, a highly linear power amplifier, an eight-channel digital upmixer and a digital down-converter in one chip. The unique advantages of this system include the integrated design, the capability of the single-chip solution, and ultra-low power consumption. Furthermore, this chipset has the capability of transmitting 4G/LTE up to 64 MHz and up to 5 MHz for 2G/3G transmissions.
To test the performance of the MAX2690IC, the MCU board evaluation kit serves as the intelligent control unit, where measurements, calibrations, and analysis are executed. With the help of the built-in generator and spectrum analyzer, a user can monitor, analyze and characterise the MAX2690EVKIT’s performance in real-time, allowing for higher precision. Furthermore, the on-board LED’s and tactile switches allow the user to interact with the board in order to properly evaluate the radio frequency chain.
