Introduction

MAX3232CSE-T is the most commonly used integrated circuit for the serial communication interface. It is low-power, low-cost and highly integrated. This integrated circuit can drive up to three bundles of signals that are used in various interface between RS232 and TTL/CMOS converters. It also provides these interfaces with the necessary ESD (electrostatic discharge) levels for meeting RS232 standard.

Application Field

The MAX3232CSE-T is used in many applications such as the development of prototype boards, chargers, power supplies and diagnostic systems, both in development projects as well as industrial environments. It is also used in controlling and collecting digital data, testing of modules and subsystems and performing in/out applications. Working Principle

The main principle behind the working of MAX3232CSE-T is the serial communication. In this type of communication, two or more devices communicate with each other in a synchronous pattern by exchanging one bit at a time, which makes it very simple and efficient. In contrast to asynchronous communication, each character is sent after the completion of a byte or word, a protocol is required in serial communication where the transmitter and the receiver agree upon a certain type of data exchange.

The serial port in MAX3232CSE-T uses 5V logic levels, or CMOS/TTL logic levels, to communicate. It also supports 19.2 k baud rate and has a serial port which contains two pins, RXD and TXD for receiving and transmitting data.

The transmitter sends data in the serial form to the receiver. The receiver then converts the serial data into parallel form, wherein each bit is taken as a separate piece of information. This data is then used to manipulate the internal processing of the receiver. Similarly, parallel data generated in the receiver is transmitted in the serial form to the transmitter. The transmitter then decodes the serial data into parallel form and makes it available for the application.

The MAX3232CSE-T consists of two operational modes – TxA and RxB. In the TxA mode, the transmitter is responsible for sending the data while in the RxB mode, the receiver is responsible for receiving the data. The device supports up to 3Tx and 3Rx signals depending on the requirement and configuration.
