MAX3738ETG+T is a highly integrated, wide supply voltage laser driver solution tailored for high-performance small-form-factor applications, such as miniaturized optical modules. It is the latest of Maxim Integrated’s products belonging to the PMIC (Power Management IC) – Laser Drivers family, providing customers with improved power efficiency, better thermal performance and overall system reliability.
The MAX3738ETG+T integrates a laser diode supply regulator, laser diode bias control, laser diode bias monitoring, laser diode current limiting, laser diode temperature monitoring and laser diode control into a single package (9mmx9mm). It also comes with integrated protections to ensure the safety of both the laser diode and the PMIC. The board includes laser diode connector, laser diode power supply, control signals, digital interface, and analog interface.
Application Field of MAX3738ETG+T
MAX3738ETG+T is ideal for fiber-optic communication systems, such as optical transceivers and optical switches, or any other optical systems requiring higher power laser diode supply or laser diode temperature recording accuracy. This product can improve system performance by reaching an efficiency of up to 90%, cutting operating temperatures by a full 10°C and simplifying the entry into more complex optical applications. Working Principle of MAX3738ETG+T
The MAX3738ETG+T consists of two basic components; a current limited, isolated laser diode supply regulator and a laser diode bias & temperature control block. The laser diode supply regulator provides an isolated, regulated, and current-limited output to reliably drive the laser diode. It also provides a low-noise and precise laser diode bias voltage to ensure high power and accurate temperature monitoring of the laser diode. The laser diode temperature control block monitors the laser diode temperature by utilizing a direct temperature readout (DTR) temperature monitoring system. It is also capable of controlling the laser diode bias voltage and current to compensate for temperature change and maintain the optical power of the laser diode. The MAX3738ETG+T also integrates safety features to maximize system safety and reliability.
