The MAX4525EUB is an advanced member in a family of soft-spike-free, low-voltage, single-channel, low power Analog Switches, Multiplexers, Demultiplexers with high performance features. It is designed to operate from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply and is capable of switching signals up to ±20V into 0Ω. The MAX4525EUB enjoys many advantages over traditional switches, such as reliability, fast switch activation/deactivation times, improved performance, and full-on/full-off feature.
The MAX4525EUB provides a single switch or multiplexer (SPST/SPDT-on-demand) with the flexibility to choose and modify the switch operation. It works on the principle of transferring the signal from one terminal to another (or directly blocking the signal) under the control of the logic input signals. The logic inputs/outputs and the switch connection/disconnection signals are buffered, thus ensuring reliable and noise-free operation. Moreover, the MAX4525EUB features noise-free switching and low distortion, as well as several other features such as low capacitance, low charge injection and fast switching.
The MAX4525EUB is an ideal analog switch for several applications such as test and measurement equipment, Hot-swapping applications, 3D audio mixers and headphone amplifiers. It is also used in cellular phones, portable devices, audio applications, motor control systems and avionics. The MAX4525EUB also serves as a perfect option for automotive applications, where low power consumption, fast switching and long-term reliability are a must.
The MAX4525EUB works by using a pulsed or direct control to control transistors in series. When the input voltage is low, the current is away from the pins and the switch is OFF. When the input voltage rises, the current flows from the pins and the switch is ON. This is done using dual control input (pin 1 and pin 3).
On-Off activation/ deactivation times of the MAX4525EUB are determined by the distance between the switching threshold voltage level and the voltage driving the control terminal. Moreover, when the switch is “on”, there is also an built in variation of the "on"-resistance.
The MAX4525EUB is further incorporated with a slew-rate control. This ensures that when the switch drives to its ON state, the rate of the change is limited thus protecting the components connected to the switch. The Slew-Rate-Control also ensure that active level-shifting is used instead of real-time feedback, which can be dangerous and unreliable.
The MAX4525EUB also adds an additional level of protection for its used components by including a power-on-reset circuit. The power-on-reset circuit ensures that the switch is ON/OFF after the device is powered up. This feature saves the user from manually resetting the switch each time it is restarted.
The MAX4525EUB is also available with built-in thermal and overcurrent protection. With temperature protection, the user can be assured that the switch remains safely and reliably OFF until the temperature is lowered. On the other hand, overcurrent protection safeguards against fault and/or transient currents greater than 1.6A passing through the switch.
