The MAX5005ACUB+ is specifically targeted for low voltage applications such as post-regulation of switching regulators, white LED regulation, flash memory bias, mobile phone power supplies, and other linear and switched-mode applications. It is ideally suited for 3V to 3.8V post-regulation applications, providing clean power for noise sensitive applications.The MAX5005ACUB+ is also well suited to serve as a post-regulator in handheld Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ZigBee applications with its wide operating temperature, small package, and low quiescent current for battery-powered applications. It can ensure the low noise required for high-quality video, digital audio, and data transmission applications.Features
The MAX5005ACUB+ features a low-noise 250kHz switching regulator with low dropout (LDO) behavior. It enables very high efficiencies and is tolerant to large input/output transients. Output voltage accuracy is maintained over line, load, and temperature. Operating output currents up to 200mA can be achieved at 3V out.Other features of the MAX5005ACUB+ include low quiescent current (320µA max), and low noise with 150% transient response capability and no output capacitors.Working Principle
The MAX5005ACUB+ works in two stages: the current shunt switch and the voltage regulator. When the load current exceeds the current limit, the current shunt switch turns off and provides a minimal dropout potential to the output. Then, the voltage regulator stage compensates for the main voltage drop, protecting the device from permanent damage and providing low voltage accuracy.The current shunt switch utilizes a high gain, fast-response MOSFET switch for optimal protection. The voltage regulator stage is implemented using a charge pump, which allows very small output voltage variations even at high line conditions, and provides a wide dynamic range.Conclusion
