The MAX5099ATJ+T is a member of theMAX5099family of low-voltage, synchronous, step-down dc-dc converter ICs that operate from 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range. It is specifically designed for powering applications where board space is at a premium.The MAX5099ATJ+T provides up to 2A output current with adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V to 5V.The MAX5099ATJ+T uses a constant-frequency peak current-mode control for excellent line and load regulation. Its wide 5V to 38V input voltage range, adjustable output voltage range, low quiescent supply current, and programmable soft-start make it ideal for automotive and industrial applications.The MAX5099ATJ+T operates in a step-down mode with external components; its wide 4.62MHz switching frequency range allows small surface-mount inductors and capacitors to be used for minimum board space. Current-mode operation provides excellent line and load regulation over wide load and line conditions, and an automated output voltage tracking scheme reduces external components.The MAX5099ATJ+T can be synchronized to an external clock, and an error amplifier provides ±2.5% output voltage accuracy. An improved loop compensation system reduces external component count, while an internal voltage loop provides fast transient response.The MAX5099ATJ+T features a wide duty cycle range (0% to 100%), and a 1.2V reference voltage. The device includes output overcurrent, overtemperature, and overvoltage protection. The input current limit is adjustable between 2A, 1A, and 0.5A via external resistors.Applications of the MAX5099ATJ+T include A/D converters, low-voltage DSP cores, automotive infotainment and LED lighting, cloud computing, and other systems that require clean and regulated power with high efficiency and noise free operation in the smallest amount of space.Working PrincipleThe MAX5099ATJ+T is a DC-DC step-down converter designed to provide an output voltage significantly lower than an input voltage. The device works by switching a power transistor on and off very quickly, allowing a constant current to flow from the input to the output.The switching frequency of the device is determined by an internal oscillator, which is adjustable via an external resistor. The duty cycle of the device is controlled via an error amplifier, which compares the output voltage to a regulated reference voltage.The MAX5099ATJ+T features an improved loop compensation system, which reduces the number of external components required for proper device operation. The improved loop compensation system also guarantees a fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation.In addition to the improved loop compensation system, the MAX5099ATJ+T also features an output overcurrent, overtemperature, and overvoltage protection.
