Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC)
The MAX5811NEUT+T is a dual, high-speed, 10-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with a ±2.5V output range. The device can be configured to perform voltage and current setting functions with resolutions of up to 8-bits. In addition, it offers multiple output channel options, including single-ended and differential channel configurations. The device includes an internal memory and can either be clocked through a single I2C/SPI interface or operated independently. The MAX5811NEUT+T has been designed to meet a number of common digital interfaces and data acquisition needs.

Working Principle
The MAX5811NEUT+T DAC uses a 12-bit oversampling A/D converter (ADC). This ADC is integrated with a differential amplifier, a high-speed, low distortion differential driver and an adjustable software gain stage. Up to 10-bit resolution is obtainable from the device. The MAX5811NEUT+T is provided with a clocked data input port, but can also be configured to operate in an independent mode. The device is also capable of storing data in a 7-bit-wide internal memory. Data can be transferred to and from the device via a I2C/SPI interface.
The main functional blocks of the MAX5811NEUT+T are shown in the figure below. The differential amplifier amplifies the analog signal at the input of the device. This signal is then converted to a digital signal which is fed to the adjustable digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The output of the DAC is then fed to the differential driver which is capable of driving a wide range of load configurations.

The device can be programmed to generate a wide range of outputs depending on the configuration. The output stage of the MAX5811NEUT+T has been designed to provide a high-bandwidth differential or single-ended output. It also features slew rates of 50MHz and distortion levels that are better than -60dB at 1GHz. The device is also capable of providing a current output mode, whereby the output is determined by a current-output register.
In addition, the MAX5811NEUT+T offers a wide range of configuration options. These include the ability to configure multiple DACs in parallel, and the option to link DACs together to provide simultaneous sample and hold performance. Additionally, the device can be programmed to operate in a dual speed mode, where the output data rate is reduced to decrease the overall power consumption. The device also includes an auto sleep feature, which turns off the device when idle.
The MAX5811NEUT+T has been designed for use in a variety of applications, from test and measurement to industrial automation. The device provides high-speed performance with excellent spectral purity, allowing for the realization of a wide range of digital-to-analog conversion tasks quickly and efficiently.
