The Hot Swap Controllers feature over-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature protection with a wide input voltage range of 2.4V to 5.25V and an output current up to 8A.

Working Principle of MAX5900AAEUT+T

The MAX5900AAEUT+T Hot Swap Controller operates in two modes; these are Fast-Start and In-rush Current Limit (ICL) Mode. In Fast-Start Mode, the Hot Swap Controller provides a fast startup by providing a high VIN undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold as well as support for an adjustable soft-start ramp. This ensures that the Hot Swap Controller can quickly startup from power-off conditions.

The In-rush Current Limit (ICL) Mode is designed to limit peak in-rush current to a safe level when powering up multiple boards. The ICL Mode utilizes an adjustable current limit, allowing the current limit to be set so the peak in-rush current is low enough to prevent in-rush current damage while still providing enough power to the device.

The MAX5900AAEUT+T also features a wide input voltage range and high efficiency, enabling it to be used in a variety of applications. In addition, the Hot Swap Controller features thermal shutdown, over-voltage protection, and over-current protection. These features protect components from damage caused by excessive current or voltage.
