Working Principle of the MAX5937LCESA+

The working principle of the MAX5937LCESA+ is based on a linear-controlled switching power stage, which is the core element of the device. The switching power stage is enabled when the voltage across the OUT pad exceeds the specified threshold, usually 1.7V. Once enabled, the device will monitor the current flowing through the OUT pad, either relative to the SA pin or via an external sense resistor. If the current limit is exceeded, the switching power stage will be turned off and the device will enter auto-retry mode.

During auto-retry, the device will sample the current once every 12μs and restart the switching power stage if the current limit is no longer exceeded. If the current limit is still exceeded after a certain period, the device will automatically enter a retry period where the current limit will be reduced until the current limit is no longer exceeded.

The MAX5937LCESA+ also features an interlock input, allowing for additional Hot Swap-based control. The interlock input is enabled by a logic high signal and used to prevent any current from flowing through the device\'s switching power stage.
