MAX5945CAX+T is a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) designed to provide precise power source and load control for data access products utilizing the Power over Ethernet (PoE) protocol. It is the most configurable and lower power PoE controller currently available on the market. The fully integrated IC features a high-accuracy dual-channel current regulator, integrated tracking logic, configurable voltage, current, and power disables, and much more. Its low power consumption makes it an ideal choice for low-power PoE applications.
The MAX5945CAX+T is optimized to guarantee reliable supply of power when transferring data between interconnected devices in the Power over Ethernet (PoE) protocol. This is made possible by the integrated power source and load control, as well as its high-accuracy dual-channel current regulator. The IC includes configurable voltage, current, and power disables to protect both the power source and load, making it an ideal choice for low-power PoE applications.
The MAX5945CAX+T is ideally suited for PoE applications such as Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches, in-home Ethernet to Electrical (E2E) power adapters, home gateways and routers, broadband access gateways, Power over Ethernet (PoE+) Adapter, Power over Ethernet (PoE++) Adapter, PoE Media Converters, as well as PC port language translation devices.
The MAX5945CAX+T operates like a PoE switch, and is adaptable for multiple power sources. The controller operates over a wide range of input voltages from 2.0 V to 17.3 V, and a wide fixed-output range between 3.3 V to 20 V. The current regulator integrated into the IC maintains current-regulation accuracy of +/-1.6% in the nominal load current range of 450 mA to 10 mA. The IC also includes a programmable soft start feature to regulate power up ramp time, programmable power up sequencing with up to four outputs, and basic current output protection (OCP) up to 32 mA.
The MAX5945CAX+T also contains multiple configurable features for PoE applications such as configurable power disables and power good logic, port language detection logic, over voltage protection (OVP) to prevent overvoltage fault conditions, a monitoring system that includes an open-circuit and input-disconnect detection system, and several hardware configurable pins that allow advanced configuration of component behavior and changes.
In addition to the highly configurable components, the MAX5945CAX+T brings many other impressive features to the table. It has a low temperature coefficient of 6 ppm/°C, an efficiency rating of up to 95% and a wide operating temperature range between 0°C and 70°C. The IC also includes a power-safe mode that allows it to operate in either a low-power standby or a zero-power hibernate state, making it an ideal choice for applications that require energy efficiency.
