MAX5956BUEE+ is a hot swap controller from Maxim Integrated Semiconductor Corporation. It is designed to prevent voltage surges during insertion of hot pluggable devices, which may cause a sudden draw of current or cause a short circuit.

The MAX5956BUEE+ is a monolithic device that contains a low voltage current-mode stay-on FET switch, as well as an overcurrent protection circuit and a thermally sensitive current limit. It is housed in a tiny 14-pin TSSOP package with a typical current rating of 2A and a voltage rating of 28V.
