The MAXM17503DEMBD# is an evaluation board designed for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-Line) SMPS applications. It is a high performance, low cost solution for evaluating and developing DC/DC and AC/DC Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs).
The usual powering of AC/DC devices utilizes linear regulators, but this linear power supply design has many drawbacks, including large efficiency loss and requiring a bulky heat sink in order to dissipate the heat generated in the process. To remedy these issues, Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs) have become increasingly popular due to their much higher efficiency ratings and much lower overall power losses. SMPSs are also typically much smaller in size than linear power supply designs.
A DC/DC SMPS utilizes a high frequency switching scheme in order to rapidly switch a current on and off. By rapidly cycling the current, the power output is regulated by a feedback control loop which adjusts the duty cycle of the switches in order to maintain the desired voltage output. This method of powering devices allows for extremely efficient power conversion from one DC voltage to another.
The MAXM17503DEMBD# evaluation board is specifically designed to demonstrate and evaluate DC/DC and AC/DC (off-Line) SMPSs.
