The MC100EP139DTG is a Clock Generator, PLL (Phase Lock Loop) & Frequency Synthesizer all in one integrated circuit designed by ON Semiconductor. This device is designed to provide control, synchronization and clock generation (frequency multiplication) flexibility with any system design.
The MC100EP139DTG combines a dual PLL/Frequency Synthesizer and a high-voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) with a digitally controlled crystal oscillator (DCXO). The device is offered in CK014BG and CK013BG packages in order to maximize space savings for various applications.
The MC100EP139DTG is suitable for use in a wide range of applications such as: servers, Personal Computers (PCs), routers and switches, digital signaling base stations, satellite communication systems, cellular phones, routers, switches, base station controllers, set-top boxes, smart grid applications and parking meters.
In addition, the MC100EP139DTG is ideal for clocking of Ethernet transceivers and other data transmission applications. It also operates efficiently in multi-phase clock generation designs and can be used to generate frequency-skewed clock outputs for various applications, such as system clock generators.
The MC100EP139DTG works based on two primary functions. The first is the on-chip VCO that is used to provide reference signals for the PLL/Frequency Synthesizer circuitry. The second is a digitally controlled crystal oscillator (DCXO) that is used to determine the exact frequency of the generated clock.
The VCO can be programmed to output frequencies ranging from 100MHz to 650MHz, while the DCXO generates a precise reference frequency to be used as a reference clock by the devices connected to the MC100EP139DTG, allowing them to synchronize. The DCXO is also adjustable within its specified range of frequency tolerance.
The MC100EP139DTG also has an integrated phase detector that can detect when the DCXO reference clock and the VCO generated clock are not in sync, and will adjust the VCO frequency accordingly.
In addition, the MC100EP139DTG has a wide range of features that make it suitable for a variety of clock generation applications. These features include programmable output frequencies from 200MHz to 1GHz; adjustable duty cycle; flexible reference clock selection; programmable clock jitter characteristics; power-down mode; and programmable phase shift.
