The MC13233C is a dual-channel RF transceiver integrated chip (IC) designed for the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) standards. The MC13233C combines a programmable baseband signal processor with a wideband transmitter and receiver, providing a comprehensive radio interface solution for IEEE802.15.4 protocol applications like Zigbee and 6LoWPAN. This RF IC integrates features such as two independent transmitters and receivers, programmable power amplifier, high sensitivity receiver, low voltage operation and small package size.MC13233C Application Field
The MC13233C is a multi-channel transceiver integrated circuit which integrates two fully independent radios on one chip. This chip can be used for high performance radio applications, such as Zigbee, 6LoWPAN, Bluetooth, mobile phones, Zigbee Mesh, smart home, security systems and many other ISM protocol applications. Compared with traditional multi-channel radio ICs, this chip provides higher integration, improved sensitivity, wider modulation bandwidth, lower current consumption and reduced system footprint. One of the most important applications of the MC13233C is Zigbee, a low-power, self-organizing wireless mesh networking protocol designed for use in low-cost, low-power, low-data rate applications. This chip supports a data rate of 1Mb/s and is highly integrated with a 2.4GHz radio, baseband processor, power amplifier, low voltage regulator and digital isolation. It helps to reduce the system cost and simplify the circuit design to realize advanced Zigbee applications. Furthermore, this chip can be used for low power cellular communication protocols such as Bluetooth, GSM, Wi-Fi, and GPRS, which makes it suitable for applications needing ubiquitous radio communication capabilities.MC13233C Working Principle
The MC13233C works on the principle of dual modulation, which uses two different types of modulation to transfer data between two nodes. Firstly, a digital input data stream is modulated to an intermediate frequency using PSK (Phase Shift Key) modulation. Secondly, this IF signal is further modulated to an RF carrier using FM (Frequency Modulation) modulation. The MC13233C contains a programmable baseband processor that supports PSK modulation formats, such as BPSK (Binary PSK), QPSK (Quaternary PSK) and MSK (Minimum-Shift Keying). The PSK modulator in the MC13233C is a quadrature modulator that produces two different phase-shifted signals, which are then combined to form the modulated IF signal. Once the IF signal is generated, it is further modulated with FM modulation to produce the desired RF signal. The FM modulation implemented within the MC13233C includes OOK (On-Off Keying), 2FSK (2-Frequency Shift Keying) and GFSK (Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying). The MC13233C also provides a programmable power amplifier that is capable of producing an RF signal of up to 19dBm for greater power efficiency.The antenna connection of the MC13233C is configured using a 50Ω coaxial cable and a matching network that is optimized for the target operating frequency. The MC13233C can communicate in two different operating modes: circuit switched and packet switched. In circuit switching, the connection between two nodes is pre-established and remains active until explicitly terminated. On the other hand, in packet switching the connection between nodes is broken after a single packet is exchanged. The MC13233C provides an excellent cost/performance solution for radio applications needing long range, low power and low data rates. It is a highly integrated IC that combines a wideband transmitter and receiver as well as a programmable baseband signal processor.
