The MC35FS6510NAER2 is an integrated pulse and gate driver for driving brushless dc (BLDC) and permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) motors. It is designed for applications such as fans and pumps, enabling a low-cost and high-efficiency motor control solution. This low-voltage power management integrated circuit (PMIC) contains all the necessary components for the control, sensing and protection of a single-phase BLDC/PMS motor.
The MC35FS6510NAER2 provides a single-phase bridge of low-side power N-channel power MOSFETs (labeled phase A, phase B, and phase C). A dedicated internal high-side driver, phase U, is used to drive the phase C MOSFET. The internal pulse-width modulation (PWM) generation logic drives the bridge via internal N-MOSFETs and the external high-side MOSFET. The system can be configured to operate using either 3-Phase or 2-Phase operation.
Three integrated analog-to-digital converters are incorporated in the MC35FS6510NAER2 to measure the motor current, line voltage and motor speed. Additionally, a single-ended Hall sensor input is provided for sensing the rotational speed of the motor. When a Hall sensor is used to measure the rotational speed, the MC35FS6510NAER2 automatically calculates the motor commands from the measured inputs.
The MC35FS6510NAER2 has two PWM outputs for controlling the motors. The two PWM outputs can be configured for a single-phase or 3-phase operation with independent time-base settings. In 3-Phase mode, one output is used to drive Phase A, the second output is used to drive Phase B and the third output is used to drive Phase C. In 2-Phase mode, one output is used to drive Phase A and B while the second output is used to drive Phase C.
The inputs to the MC35FS6510NAER2 are configured to provide the required performance parameters such as motor speed, torque, and current limit. The user-selectable motor speed, torque, and current limit values are programmable via the CAN interface. The MC35FS6510NAER2 is capable of controlling two motors simultaneously, with each motor having its own individual PWM control.
The MC35FS6510NAER2 is designed for use in harsh environments and utilizes robust design techniques to protect the internal circuitry from over-voltage, over-temperature and electrostatic discharge (ESD). The MC35FS6510NAER2 is a simple and easy-to-use solution for driving single-phase BLDC/PMS motors.
