Logic - Multivibrators are widely used in many industries, such as automotive, telecommunications and space-based applications, to provide electrical timing and control signals. One of the most common types of Logic - Multivibrator is a dual flip-flop circuit, which is capable of being in one of two binary (digital) states at any given time. When the static Logic - Multivibrator is triggered (by a rising edge on the Clock pin) the outputs of the dual flip-flop are switched, the Output Enable pin is set to low and the Reset pin is set to high. When the MC74HC4538ADTR2 is used as a dynamic Logic - Multivibrator, the pins Clock, Output Enable and Reset are connected to microprocessor logic components. The signals from the Clock and Reset pins are continuously monitored by the microprocessor and if a rising edge is detected on the Clock pin, the microprocessor will set the Output Enable pin to low and the Reset pin to high. This will result in the outputs of the dual flip-flop being switched. The Reset pin will remain low until the microprocessor resets it, thus resetting the device.
