The MC74HCT4051A is an analog multiplexer/demultiplexer designed for the implementation of a wide array of multiplexing applications. This device works perfect for audio, video, wireless, communication, navigation and other applications where the CPU needs to access the computer\'s peripherals at different times.The 74HCT4051A multiplexer has 8 data inputs (1x 8-bit), 4 data outputs (1x 4-bit) and 8 control inputs. When one of the control inputs (1-8) is high, then the data input line corresponding to that control line is routed to the 4-bit output.The multiplexer/demultiplexer uses a CMOS logic gate, which is switched on and off by the application\'s logic voltage. It can switch a 4-bit input signal to 4-bit output and back again, allowing data to be transferred between multiple devices while consuming minimal power.The MC74HCT4051A is the perfect example of how analog multiplexers/demultiplexers can increase the efficiency of data transfer in an array of applications. The 8-bit input is directed to the 4-bit output via the 8 address lines. To select a particular input line, the corresponding control line must be brought high. As soon as one of the control lines is high, the corresponding data line is directed to the 4-bit output.The MC74HCT4051A multiplexer is also extremely versatile as it can be used as part of a switching circuit as well as a demultiplexer. When used in a switching circuit, it allows for the selection of one out of eight analog input signals to be directed to the output line.
