The MCIMX31ADSE is a high-end embedded evaluation board used for analysis and development of various applications. It comes with a highly integrated hardware platform featuring an ARM Cortex-A8 based system-on-chip and extensive peripheral features.

The board features the Freescale i.MX31 System-On-Chip (SoC) which includes an ARM Cortex-A8 processor running at up to 532MHz with two on-chip memories (128KB OTP ROM and 64KB SRAM). This board also has a 2D/3D Graphics Processing Unit, dual image Signal Processing Units for video codecs and image processing, PC-style host-to-host bridge, dual 10/100Mbps Ethernet MACs for fast LAN connectivity, USB 1.1/2.0 interfaces with Full Speed/480Mbps support, CAN, and several audio and communication protocols.

The MCIMX31ADSE board is suitable for use in a broad range of embedded applications such as communication/telecommunication, audio/visual equipment, automotive, robotics, security, medical, HMI and others. It also provides an ideal platform for development and prototyping.

The working principle of the MCIMX31ADSE evaluation board is based on the ARM Cortex-A8 processor core and other peripherals which are programmed and used for controlling all the functions and operations of the board. This core processor works on the Von-Neumann architecture, where instructions and data are executed from the same memory space. The core processor is connected to the Advanced System Bus (ASB) bus, which is used for the transfer and sharing of data between the processor and other peripherals. The processor also controls the reset and wake-up functions of the system using the advanced Power Management (Wake-up, Shutdown and Reset) control features.

The evaluation board comes with several on-board peripherals and connectors, which are used for connecting to various external peripherals for extended development. These include USB interfaces, LCD display interfaces (VGA and/or LCD-CSI), CAN, Ethernet ports (10/100Mbps) and several audio/video inputs/outputs (3.5mm audio jack, Auxiliary Line In/Out, Analog Video Input/Output). The MCIMX31ADSE also features a high-speed on-chip DDR-SDRAM memory controller and NAND Flash for booting, storing applications, and other data.

The evaluation board also provides built-in support for several development tools like JTAG debugger, COM emulator, graphical interface development tools, software libraries, and the ability to program and debug from the NAND flash. This makes it easy to use for prototyping, testing and evaluating applications.
