Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) is an integrated circuit (IC) used to manage power in electronics applications. These solutions often contain collections of voltage regulator, current regulator, monitoring and communication functions. PMIC can be integrated into a range of consumer products such as cameras, cell phones, tablets and wearables.

PMIC - Supervisors are designed to monitor time and voltage events in complex systems. They offer a wide range of features such as reset, power on reset, window watchdog, manual reset and various other control functions. A primary benefit of PMIC - Supervisors is their ability to protect a design from high voltage, low-voltage and unexpected voltage conditions, ensuring reliable product operation over the life of the system.

One of such supervisors is the MCP1316MT-46FE/OTVAO. This PMIC - Supervisors is a microprocessor supervisor IC that helps protect and extends the operational life of embedded systems. It features voltage monitoring, window watchdog, manual reset and Power on Reset (POR). It is designed to be used in applications where the system requires protection from unwanted voltage spikes and dips, as well as help to prevent system lock-up or downtime.

The MCP1316MT-46FE/OTVAO is available in a variety of packages such as a 8-lead, tiny SOT-23-5, 8-lead mini-flat 3 x 3mm, 8-lead PDIP and SOIC packages. It operate over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for a variety of applications in industrial, automotive, consumer and commercial systems. The MCP1316MT-46FE/OTVAO provides an adjustable output and includes status flags for manual reset and Power On Reset (POR).

The MCP1316MT-46FE/OTVAO has two voltage thresholds: threshold 1 and threshold 2. The thresholds are user-selectable from 0.9V to 4.6V. When the voltage level exceeds the selected threshold level, the input pin goes Low, generating an output Low pulse. The threshold1 pin can be used to select between different voltage levels. The threshold2 pin is used to set the lower level of detection.

When power is applied to the MCP1316MT-46FE/OTVAO, it activates the Power-On Reset (POR) sequence. The POR sequence is triggered by either a manual reset or when the input voltage falls below the threshold1 level. When this occurs, the POR pin goes High and a low-active reset is generated. The POR sequence is configured, generally by a resistor connected to the POR pin, to occur between approximately 0.4 V (0.25 V for some packages) and VDD. If VDD rises above the selected threshold, the POR sequence will end and the output pulse will no longer be generated. This ensures that the system will be reset when the system power is applied or when the input voltage drops below the threshold1 level.

The Window Watchdog monitors time events and will assert reset when the input voltage is below the lower voltage threshold2 for the time period specified by the external time delay capacitor. The external time delay capacitor is connected to the OSC pin and can be programmed to the desired time period. This feature is used to ensure that the system is not locked up or in a stalled state for an extended period of time.

The MCP1316MT-46FE/OTVAO application field includes industrial, automotive, consumer and commercial applications.
