MCP1416T-E/OTVAO is an advanced bi-directional gate driver integrated circuit (IC). It is designed to drive power MOSFETs and IGBTs in low-side and high-side configuration with minimum current consumption and minimum EMI. This IC is optimised for driving Voltage Clamp Fault feedback devices, having a fast and clean turn-off. It also allows for a minimum dead-time between two drivers, enabling faster drive performances.

MCP1416T-E/OTVAO has multiple applications including Motor Drivers, Power Supplies, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switch Mode Power Supplies, buck, boost, inverting, SEPIC, and CCM buck converters. Working Principle of MCP1416T-E/OTVAO

MCP1416T-E/OTVAO is a low-side and high-side driver with optimized features for driving power MOSFETs and IGBTs in low-side and high-side configuration. It is a truly bi-directional gate driver which supports ground referenced power as well as floating power supply rail. The device uses high-speed low resistance MOSFET drivers that limits the charging current during the supply ramp-up and can handle up to 40V.

The device has an integrated dual channel comparator to detect the presence of over voltage fault in a low-side switch. This integrated PWM generator uses a resonant clock that is synchronized by a rising edge. The soft-start current limit is implemented by the TTL logic inputs and sets the maximum peak switch current for a given delay and for a given peak current limit.

The device offers a fast turn-off with a low-EMI, thanks to the fast turn-off accuracy of the devices and the use of an extern dead-time control to limit the switching time of the devices. The devices have a built-in ESD-protection circuit which assures immunity up to 30 kV, in order to minimize capacitive and EMC emission.
