Data Acquisition is the process of gathering signals from an external source and storing them for analyzing and evaluating purposes. Digital to Analog (DAC) devices are used to convert digital signals into analog signals, digital signals refer to the ones sent from computers, detectors and other digital systems. Analog to Digital (ADC) devices are used to convert analog signals into digital signals, analog signals are generated from source such as radios, televisions and other analog devices.The MCP3426A6T-E/MC is a high precision, low power, multi-channel analog to digital converter that contains three 12-bit A/D converters. It has a 2.7V to 5.5V single supply operating voltage and is designed for low power operation with a current consumption of just 1mA. This device is also capable of operating at temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C. The MCP3426A6T-E/MC also has a selectable gain feature, with a range of 0 (Zero), 1 (X1), 2 (X2), or 4 (X4), which provides flexibility in the signal input range and resolution.MCP3426A6T-E/MC application field covers multiple areas. It can be used for industrial control and monitoring, measurement applications such as temperature, pressure, humidity and physical parameters like displacement, flow, speed and acceleration. The DSP is responsible for capturing digital input signals and transferring them to the ADC. The ADC then converts the analog signal to a digital signal, which is then output to the clock generator. The clock generator then sends the digital signal to the microcontroller for further processing.The MCP3426A6T-E/MC uses a two-stage conversion process: the first involves a high-speed decision process and the second stage is a low speed tracking process. The high-speed decision process is responsible for obtaining a very accurate analog signal and converting it to a digital signal. This is done by taking several bits of data and comparing them to a reference voltage. If the voltage is larger than the reference voltage, the bit is marked as "1" and if it is less than the reference voltage, the bit is marked as "0". This process is known as \”successive approximation\” and consists of successive approximations until the most accurate values are obtained.The low speed tracking process works by using a reference capacitor that is charged and discharged in parallel with the input signal. This helps to increase the accuracy of the conversion process. The capacitor stores the charges of the input signal, which can then be compared to the reference voltage to get the most accurate values.The MCP3426A6T-E/MC also has a programmable gain amplifiers (PGA), and high-speed serial interfaces to communicate with the host processor.
