Working Principle of MCP4822-E/SN

The header bits indicate to the DAC the DAC address, write enable, control bit and power-on reset bit.

The gain control bits allow the user to scale the input voltage, by adjusting the value of the input voltage range. The range of the output voltage is set by the voltage reference, which can be connected to either the internal reference or an external reference. The reference voltage is then used to convert the 12-bit input data word into the analog voltage level.

MCP4822 includes a proprietary latch-up protection circuit, which prevents high voltage transients from damaging the device. The device contains a power-on reset circuit which ensures that the DAC outputs always power up at the same voltage level.
