MCP6024-I/P is a precision instrumentation amplifier consisting two in-amps and one programmable output amplifier. It is designed for applications including slim, low-power, compact data acquisition systems. This product can be used in various medical and industrial applications such as medical instrumentation, thermocouple measurements, strain gauge signals, blood pressure sensors, temperature sensitive applications and other systems that require high-accuracy, low-voltage operation.

MCP6024-I/P belongs to a category of linear-amplifiers, instrumentation OP Amps, Buffer Amps, and provides an input range of -2.5V to +2.5V and a continuous output range of 0.5V¬1.5V. The device can output from 0.25V to 1.65V when driven from a single-ended input, or from -2.0V to 2.0V when driven from a dual-ended input. It has no temperature coefficient and no frequency-dependent losses. The MCP6024-I/P also features an improved common-mode transient immunity, further reducing noise and making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

The working principle of the MCP6024-I/P is based on the instrumentation amplifier (I/A) topology which consists of two in-amps followed by a programmable output amplifier. This design eliminates the need for providing both gain and offset adjustments, because the offset voltage is taken care of by the first two differential stages. In the first stage of the MCP6024-I/P, the input signal is amplified using differential amplifier while the input offset voltage is reduced using the common mode feedback (CMF) network. The amplified signal then passes through a classical instrumentation amplifier which reduces the common-mode voltage and thus allows for a very high accuracy, low-voltage operation.

The second stage of the MCP6024-I/P is a programmable output amplifier which consists of an adjustable gain prescribed by the external resistor connected to the variable resistor. The variable resistor is connected to the non-inverting pin of the operational amplifier and provides a high dB gain up to 133 dB depending on the resistance applied. The output of this section is then sent through a third low-noise amplifier which provides the required gain. The final output is sent to the adjustable infinite-gain amplifier which is used to adjust the offset voltage. The gain of this last stage is set by the external capacitor connected to the output pin.

The MCP6024-I/P is ideal for medical and industrial applications due to its low power consumption and excellent accuracy. It provides the necessary gain and common-mode rejection with the addition of a single programmable output amplifier. This allows the user to adjust the gain and offset voltage without additional circuitry, making the device well suited for a wide variety of applications.
